While the DSM-5 provides important diagnostic guidelines, it does not always take into account the cultural differences in these communities, which can lead to incorrect diagnoses, especially around trauma, religion, and behavior.

Dr. Patrice Douglas

Patrice Nicole Douglas, LP, LMFT, is a Licensed Psychologist and Marriage and Family Therapist based in Southern California, with international recognition. Specializing in anxiety, addiction, relationship health, multicultural issues, and psychological testing, Dr. Douglas is a leading voice in mental health across multiple generations. Her work has been featured in SELF, Forbes, Oprah Daily, and Essence. She founded Empire Counseling in 2018 and The Weight Room in 2022, offering virtual therapy for Black boys and men in six states.
